Suprisingly from chimpanzees or perhaps more recently updated, a virus that had infected different types of monkeys and finally naturally occured as a hybrid in chimpanzees. The chimps were infected with a type of virus known as SIV (simian immunodeficiency virus) which was then transmitted to humans, probably through contact with the blood of an infected chimp (perhaps through hunting). In humans the virus became known as the Human immunodeficiency virus.
